What goes on in the workplace – how the environment is planned, designed, managed and actually used – is a big area that fundamentally involves facilities management; yet FM at the same time often seems strangely separated from it. FM is a critical factor in employee satisfaction, well-being and productivity, as is the workplace. Yet the focus for FMs tends to be on the services delivered rather than how the work environment is experienced.
As a reminder of some of the issues involved – or even an introduction to them – we’ve assembled in this briefing a range of articles from experts in their fields:
• Jitesh Patel, CEO at Peldon Rose Workplace Consultants, on planning and design that works
• Andrew Mawson, MD at Advance Workplace Associates, on implementing fast, effective and lasting change
We also have two special reports:
• Seeing the light on coffee – the shift to LED lighting in specialist areas
• The price of sub-optimal environments – new research from Gensler
In addition, a recent report from a joint team at the RSA and Vodaphone examines the challenges and benefits of introducing more flexible working – a growing consideration for many organisations in planning their workplace and property strategies. This follows the launch of the new Agile Future Forum in June 2013.
